CBD for Children
One of the most common questions I get asked is: Is CBD ok for my child? The answer is, yes! Children, just like adults, produce hormones through their endocrine system, with most of these hormones being regulated by certain parts of our brains. Some hormones may have a slightly higher production than others. When this happens with children it may make a child seem more hyper, inattentive, aggressive, or more timid, anxious, or they may even seem to have mismanaged emotions. Since CBD is not psychoactive, and also reacts with our endocannabinoids systems (connected with our nervous system) it helps to keep a better, more natural balance inside our bodies. Helping our body and mind to regulate and maintain its more natural state.
CBD has been, and is currently being studied for children with epilepsy, autism, ADD, ADHD and more with great success! Although most studies are still in their very early stages, what has been found appears to be very promising. You have all probably heard of Charlotte Figi, a child who had dravets syndrome, a severe, lifelong and sometimes deadly form of epilepsy. Having over three hundred seizures a week. Using high doses of CBD (and low doses of THC) her parents were able to almost stop the seizures completely, from three hundred seizures a week, to only two or three per month! Studies have even shown that doses of up to 1,500mg or more to be totally safe and non-toxic. CBD has also been proven to help some children with severe autism regain the ability to speak and decrease their insomnia.
There was a study done in Israel that included sixty autistic children, which were given a cannabis oil with a 20:1 CBD/THC ratio (CBD counteracts THCs high). The findings? Over half of the children saw a very significant reduction in symptoms, with about one third of the children gaining the ability to speak for the very first time! Anecdotal evidence from parents declares that some of their autistic children using CBD were able to move from special needs classes in school, to regular standard classes.
I see repeat customers all the time that fill me in on how great CBD is working for their child, whether it's simply treating their anxiety, ADD or something much more severe. I have personally seen children with ADHD be given CBD with great effects. If you do choose to use CBD for your child, I recommend starting low, around 2mg to 5mg as high doses of CBD can make little ones feel a little tired. Happy Healing!
